Malibu and Fashion District

This past weekend I went to the Fashion district downtown on saturday and then Malibu on sunday.

View of one of the allies in the fashion district

I originally went down to the fashion district because I heard that the American Apparel factory was down there and you could get clothes there for half the price that they sell in the store, but I couldn't find it. As you can see there was a lot of other places for me to shop at.

Every store there was packed with just one type of clothing. example : All pants, all shoes, all prom dresses, all cell phone cases.

Notice sign that says "NO PHOTOS"

I went into the first shoe shop I saw because there were these pretty awesome boots outside. In the store there was just one sweet old middle eastern man in there to help you. He noticed that we both had the same "olive green" eye color, too cute. I would tell him the shoe I wanted to try on and the size, then he would yell up these stairs at the back of the store what I had requested in arabic. I could hear voices call back to him and boxes fly down the steps every few minutes.

The shoes were awesome and the prices were great, I don't want to go anywhere else for boots now.

Then on sunday I went with some friends of mine to Malibu. There actually not that much to do in Malibu if you don't like beaches because thats basically all there was.

Little boy saw me with my camera and told me he would pose if I took pictures of him.

Trying to keep this a "fashiony" blog, so heres a picture of my hair. I love braids.

NEW!

Wow. I never knew blogging would be so hard to keep up with. So much has happened (as usual) since my last post. I have since graduated from cosmetology school, moved to LA and am attending the  Cinema Makeup school. I decided to start blogging again since my friend back home advised me to do so. I have only been here a month and a half and so much has happened already. I would be stupid not to blog about some of my experiences out here.

Wellll I will just catch you up to speed real quick and then I will try to blog in more detail from today on. When I first got to LA I moved in to an International student housing facility (or "hometel") called the Hobart house. There are people from all over living there. Saudi Arabia, France, Russia, Sweden, Spain, Japan, Australia, and the list goes on. I really enjoyed living there and learning about so many different cultures but after three weeks a few of my american friends and I decided we needed a space of our own and we moved to another apartment down the street. Soon after two of my friends decided to go back home so now I am down to one american friend.

I still go back to hobart every now and then to hang out, they are all so much fun.

I'v been trying to take video of all the things I have been doing but yet again something I have been slacking on.

Heres a short video of some things I'v been doing so far.

MTSU Runway

First Model I worked on
Yesterday was a pretty busy day for hair. When I first got to school I had a return client who was wanting to change up her look and go blonde. As I was working on her foils, my friend came up and asked me if I was going to be doing the hair for the MTSU runway show. I had totally forgotten about it but luckily my teachers we're nice enough to let me go on short notice. After I was done with my client (whose hair turned out gorgeous) two of my friends and I headed over to the school. It was cool having two of my worlds mold together, being able to do hair at my old school. The show was for the fashion merchandising/design students and we were there to do the hair and makeup. I ended up working on 6 different models in a matter of 3 hours. I didn't get any pictures of us working because we didn't have any time and I forgot to put a memory card in my camera... but I did go back for the show to get some shots
(I did not work on all of these models)

Tour de Fun

So last night a couple of friends and I participated in a bike riding extravaganza here in murfreesboro. We rode all around the area to different house shows for local bands. The whole tour lasted from 9 in the morning to 4 the next morning, but we started at about 6:30pm. The tour definitely lived up to it's name.
I also tried to do some hair photography while I was there but it got dark...

Talk about Hipsterville eh?

Hair Show

I went to the Nashville hair show some time ago along with hundreds of other hairdressers in the area. I had never been to a hair show before but basically it was all just product sales and some demonstrations but it was pretty cool getting to see some real professionals show off their skills.
Heres some shots from the day.

Of course Paul Mitchell had the biggest set up at the show, woop woop

Catching Up

Well well well.... where do I even start? A lot has happened since I last posted on here, more than should happen in a regular year. I had always been meaning to do more posts but every time I thought of something I felt that it wasn't interesting enough or I got distracted and forgot about it. Then I discovered that I forget about a lot of things like my ideas, dreams, significant moments or events that I have experienced, things I don't need to be forgetting. So I decided that I really don't care if it is "interesting" enough because, it's my memories and they matter to me enough to be recorded. With that said, to give you an idea of how long it has been my last post was about The Adventures of Tin Tin. That was long before the previews ever came out and now it is on DVD... yeah.

Since then I finished my first year of college. while in my second semester I decided that I wanted to give it all up and go to cosmetology school. Daring, I know, but that wasn't the last of my daring acts. Since starting my Cosmetology journey in July, I have attended three schools. A feat that no other student I know could have accomplished in less than a year. The first school I attended was the Georgia Career Institute (GCI). 3 months of my life, wasted, i'm exaggerating but it really was pretty ridiculous. I won't go into detail about how ridiculous, but lets just say the only thing I got out of that school was the friends that I made. From what I hear things have gotten worse since I left.

Very first client
Little did I know that once I decided to withdraw from GCI, that I would be told that It would take a month before I could get my hours released, which meant a month before I could transfer to a new school, and a month of wasting my life away. Luckily I have an amazing Mother and she outsmarted them and I was able to start at a new school the week after I had withdrawn. What school was that do you ask?

PAUL MITCHELL!! Oh yes, after being at GCI I wanted to be on the opposite end of the spectrum and go to the best cosmetology school I had access too. I chose to go to Paul Mitchell in Nashville because I wanted to just get out of Murfreesboro, even if it was a 30 min drive. Starting out I had to relearn everything the Paul Mitchell way and I must say that I needed it. Everything was different than what I had learned and 10 times better too. The school was at least 3 times bigger and just all around a much better school.

So you're probably wondering, "if it was such a great school why did she transfer again?" If you are wanting to be a great hairstylist there is a little something you need called clientele. Being that I lived 30 min away I could not get anyone from Murfreesboro to come in to the salon. I mean, I did get quite a few walk-ins but they were all, how do you say...from the same demographic. I was at my 2nd school a total of 5 months before I finally decided that it was time to transfer again, just so I could get the most out of my education. The staff there were much more understanding than at GCI.

Of course the only other place I could ever transfer to was the Paul Mitchell in Murfreesboro. I have been there for almost a month now and I am still trying to get use to the change. I love that I am only 10 min away and there is much more variety in the clientele. overall I am pretty content.

For any of you out there thinking about going to Beauty school or are looking for a good school, go to Paul Mitchell. Anywhere. It is the best.

Oh yeah, and I graduate in June.
